Trainings for 2024-2025:
Prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (ITS SIDS):
This very important training meets the Division of Child Development and Early Education health and safety requirements. This workshop gives child care providers an overview of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, identifies risk factors, and describes ways to reduce the risk of SIDS in child care. Presented by Alicia Tanner, Regional Child Care Health Consultant Manager.
Change is Hard But It Doesn’t Have to Hurt
Experts estimate that 20-30% of a young child’s day involves transitioning from one activity to another. That’s a lot of moving and a lot of wasted time! Unless teachers plan transitions as carefully and intentionally as they plan the rest of their day, that time can be stressful and frustrating for teachers and children alike. Participants will identify the transitions in their daily schedule, determine ways to eliminate some transitions, and learn strategies to support smooth transitions. Presented by Region 12 Healthy Social Behavior Team.
Calling All Smile Crusaders! Oral Health:
Baby teeth are important! The goal of this oral health training is to prevent early childhood tooth decay in North Carolina by educating audiences about early childhood oral health issues and best practices. Hear the latest on early childhood oral health – everything from national statistics to policies of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. If you work with young children or their parents, you’ll want to know this valuable information and how you can help prevent tooth decay. Presented by Janet Crutchfield, Public Health Dental Hygienist, NC Department of Health and Human Services.

Participation:
Trainings are open to staff working in North Carolina regulated early childhood programs and individuals that are actively working to open a regulated early childhood program in Caswell County. Actively working to open is defined as having contacted CCPFC for information on opening a facility, planning to open a facility within a year of said contact with CCPFC and having completed at least one other step towards opening. These steps may include, but not be limited to: attending a pre-licensing workshop, obtaining a location for facility or working with the licensing consultant. All trainees agree to be an active participant and demonstrate respect and professionalism throughout the training, including but not limited to, asking questions and being responsive to the trainer. Please set cell phones to vibrate or silent. For virtual trainings, participants are expected to provide verbal responses or use the chat feature to respond, complete polls, etc. For virtual trainings, participants agree that they will not engage in other work or personal activities during the training, such as driving or shopping.
Training Location:
Unless otherwise noted, all in-person trainings are held in the CCPFC conference room. The training location will be listed on the training calendar.
Virtual Trainings:
Each participant must provide an email during registration in order to receive the training link and materials. Do not share the training link with others. The training link will be emailed one day prior to the scheduled training. Participants must have their camera on throughout the entire training. Access to a mic and/or chat box is required during the entire length of the training.
Credit:
Participants arriving more than 15 minutes late or leaving more than 15 minutes early will not be given credit. Each participant is required to complete a pre & post survey and a training evaluation in order to receive the training credit. Digital certificates will be issued after participation and attendance is verified and participants have completed all of the requirements listed above and met training objectives.
Materials Given:
On occasion, professional resources or classroom materials may be given to trainees as part of participation in the training. It is the perspective of the CCPFC that the materials should belong to the person or organization that paid the registration fee. In the event that the organization paid the fee, or there is no fee, the materials should be made readily available for use by the staff member(s) who attended the training. Due to funding restrictions, some materials may only be provided to early childhood educators working in a regulated program in Caswell County. Any restrictions will be listed on the training calendar.
Child Care:
Child care is not provided at the trainings. Because it is unreasonable to expect young children to sit quietly through workshops designed for adults, individuals who bring children with them to a training will not be admitted. No refund or credit will be given.
Inclement Weather:
If Caswell County Schools are closed due to inclement weather on the same day that a training is scheduled, the training will be postponed and rescheduled later.
